Senior officer of the Romanian Armed Forces during Nicolae Ceaușescu's presidency. A distinguished military leader whose career was marked by administrative excellence and a close relationship with Romania's former president.

Born on November 1, 1929, in Costachi Negri Galați, Romania.
Graduated with honours from the Military Academy of Bucharest whilst simultaneously completing studies at the Higher Polytechnic School of Army Civil Engineers.
Completed postgraduate studies at the prestigious "FRUNZE" Military Academy in the former U.S.S.R.
Throughout his career, he held administrative positions as military commander and economic administrator of sensitive military and energy centres in Western Romania.
His upward military trajectory was closely monitored by President Ceaușescu himself, with whom he maintained very friendly relations.
Repeatedly awarded for his military administrative successes with honours signed personally by President Ceaușescu.
In September 1974, Colonel Nanu resolved intense strikes of miners in the Hunedoara region, where he served as military commander and economic administrator.
Ensured the safe transportation and stay of President Ceaușescu during this critical period.
Led lengthy negotiations between miners' unions and President Ceaușescu, achieving a comprehensive agreement that proved definitive.
The Hunedoara resolution was declared by Ceaușescu to the Central Committee as entirely owed to Nanu.
Following this success, Nanu was considered an integral member of the Communist Party of Romania.
This political victory allowed Ceaușescu to continue his presidential path and elevated Nanu's standing.



Rose through the ranks to become a General in the Romanian Armed Forces.
Was proposed by President Ceaușescu as the next Chief of the Romanian Armed Forces.
Retired with the rank of General at the end of 1982, citing serious health issues.









It was widely known that Nanu and Ceaușescu were connected by their shared passion for art, frequently exchanging valuable pieces from their personal collections.
Even after retirement, General Nanu remained Ceaușescu's most loyal friend and trusted advisor on military and political matters.
Maintained his loyalty through the "difficult times" until Ceaușescu's execution during the Romanian Revolution of 1989.











General G.S. Nanu passed away in Deva, Western Romania, on September 29, 2002. In recognition of his distinguished service to Romania, he was buried with full military honours, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned some of the most significant periods in modern Romanian history.
